Pays de Retz
The Pays de Retz is a historic district south of the Loire estuary in western France, between Nantes and the Atlantic coast, now in the department of Loire-Atlantique. It was ceded to the Breton king Erispoe by the Treaty of Angers in 851 and remained part of Brittany thereafter. Its later lords included Gilles de Rais, the 15th-century companion of Joan of Arc.
