Paysandú
Paysandú is a city in western Uruguay on the east bank of the Uruguay river, opposite Colón in Argentina. It grew from an 18th-century mission outpost into a river port and meat-processing centre. Its siege by Brazilian forces and their Uruguayan Colorado allies in 1864–1865 was one of the events that led to the Paraguayan War, and the city is the capital of Paysandú Department.
