Battle of Tippecanoe

1811 · 19th century · Part of the Tecumseh's War

The Battle of Tippecanoe was fought on 7 November 1811 near Prophetstown, in present-day Indiana, between United States forces under Governor William Henry Harrison and warriors of Tecumseh's confederacy, led in his absence by his brother Tenskwatawa. Harrison's army repelled a dawn attack and then burned Prophetstown. The battle damaged the Prophet's prestige and pushed Tecumseh towards alliance with Britain.
