Shawnee
The Shawnee are an Algonquian-speaking Native American people who in the 18th century lived mainly in the Ohio country. They were among the strongest opponents of American expansion north of the Ohio River, forming part of the Western Confederacy under leaders such as Blue Jacket and later supporting the confederacy of Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa. Removed westwards in the 19th century, their federally recognised tribes are now in Oklahoma.
