Oklahoma

1907 · 20th century

Oklahoma is a state of the south-central United States. Much of it was set aside in the 1830s as Indian Territory, to which the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Seminole and many other nations were forcibly removed. Opened to white settlement in land runs from 1889, it became the 46th state in 1907, ending the governments of the tribal nations, several of which have since been restored.
