Battle of Tondibi
The Battle of Tondibi was fought on 12 March 1591 near the Niger River, where a Moroccan expeditionary force under Judar Pasha, armed with arquebuses and light cannon, routed the much larger army of the Songhai Empire under Askia Ishaq II. The battle showed the overwhelming advantage that gunpowder weapons gave a small force. It led directly to the collapse of the Songhai Empire.
