Belshazzar

d. c. 539 BCE · 6th century BCE

Belshazzar was the son of Nabonidus, the last king of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, and governed Babylon as regent for about a decade while his father lived at the Arabian oasis of Tayma. In the Book of Daniel he is the king who sees the writing on the wall at a feast on the night Babylon falls. He probably died when the Persians took the city in 539 BCE.
