Beqaa Valley
The Beqaa Valley is a fertile high plain in eastern Lebanon between the Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon ranges, drained by the Litani and Orontes rivers. In antiquity it held Chalcis and the temple city of Heliopolis, now Baalbek, and was the base of Ituraean and Herodian princes. France added it to Greater Lebanon in 1920, and it remains the country's main farming region.
