Mount Lebanon
Mount Lebanon is a mountain range running parallel to the Mediterranean coast of Lebanon, and the name of the historic region in its highlands. Its valleys gave refuge to many communities, notably the Maronite Christians and the Druze. In antiquity the Ituraeans held parts of it, and in 1861 it became an autonomous Ottoman district, the core of the later Lebanese state.
