Bevin–Sforza plan

1949 · 20th century · Also known as Bevin-Sforza plan

The Bevin–Sforza plan was a proposal agreed in May 1949 by the British foreign secretary Ernest Bevin and the Italian foreign minister Carlo Sforza for the future of Italy's former colony of Libya. It would have placed Tripolitania under Italian, Cyrenaica under British and the Fezzan under French trusteeship for ten years. Opposed in Libya, it was rejected by the United Nations General Assembly by a single vote.
