Bidzina Cholokashvili

d. 1661 · 17th century

Bidzina Cholokashvili was a Georgian nobleman of Kakheti who, with the brothers Shalva and Elizbar, dukes of Ksani, led the Bakhtrioni uprising of 1659 against Safavid Persian rule and the settlement of Turkmen nomads in Kakheti. The rebels destroyed the Persian strongholds at Bakhtrioni and Alaverdi, but the three leaders were later captured and executed in Persia in 1661. The Georgian Orthodox Church venerates them as martyrs.
