Bioko
Bioko, formerly Fernando Po, is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Guinea, part of Equatorial Guinea and the site of its capital, Malabo. Spanish from 1778, it developed cocoa plantations that depended on contract labour from West Africa; a 1930 League of Nations inquiry into the forced shipment of Liberian workers there brought down Liberia's president.
