Black River (Honduras)

Also known as Black River settlement

Black River was a British settlement at the mouth of a river on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, founded in the 1730s by settlers allied with the Miskito. From 1749 it was the headquarters of the British superintendent of the Mosquito Shore. Britain agreed to evacuate the coast under the Convention of London of 1786, and the settlers moved mainly to Belize.
