Bormida
The Bormida is a river of north-western Italy that rises in the Ligurian Apennines and flows north through southern Piedmont. It joins the Tanaro just east of Alessandria, a city founded in 1168 at the meeting of the two rivers. The Battle of Marengo of 1800 was fought on the plain beside the Bormida near Alessandria.
