Borno State
Borno State is a state in north-eastern Nigeria, bordering Niger, Chad and Cameroon, with its capital at Maiduguri. Created in 1976, it covers much of the heartland of the old Kanem–Bornu realm, and the Shehu of Borno and the Emir of Dikwa remain traditional rulers there. Since 2009 it has been the main centre of the Boko Haram insurgency.
