Borsippa

Also known as Birs Nimrud

Borsippa was an ancient city of Babylonia, about 20 km south-west of Babylon in modern Iraq. It was the cult centre of the god Nabu, whose temple, Ezida, was rebuilt by Nebuchadnezzar II. The ruined ziggurat at the site, Birs Nimrud, was once thought to be the Tower of Babel. Chaldean tribes settled around the city in the 1st millennium BCE.
