Nimrud

Nimrud, ancient Kalhu, was a city on the Tigris in northern Mesopotamia that served as a royal capital of the Neo-Assyrian period. Ashurnasirpal II made it his capital in the ninth century BCE and built palaces decorated with stone reliefs. Its royal complexes were funded by the tribute and resources channelled into the Assyrian Empire's heartland.
