Boten–Vientiane railway

2021 · 21st century · Also known as Laos–China Railway

The Boten–Vientiane railway, known as the Laos–China Railway, is a railway of about 420 kilometres from the Chinese border at Boten to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. Built by Chinese companies under the Belt and Road Initiative, with many tunnels and bridges through the mountains, it opened in December 2021 and connects with the line to Kunming. It is the largest infrastructure project in the country's history and added to its debts to China.
