Bundesrat (Germany)
The Bundesrat is the federal council of the Federal Republic of Germany, established under the Basic Law of 1949, through which the governments of the sixteen states, or Länder, take part in federal legislation. Its members are delegates of the state governments, with votes weighted by population. It continues a tradition of state representation going back to the German Confederation and the Bundesrat of the German Empire.
