Buzen Province
Buzen was an old province of Japan in north-eastern Kyushu, now divided between Fukuoka and Ōita prefectures. It contained the Usa Shrine, the chief shrine of the god Hachiman. After the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 most of the province was given to Hosokawa Tadaoki, who built Kokura castle, and in the Edo period it was shared among the Kokura, Nakatsu and other domains.
