Caeté
The Caeté were a Tupi-speaking people of the north-eastern coast of Brazil, between Pernambuco and the São Francisco river. They resisted the first Portuguese settlers of Pernambuco. After they killed and ate the shipwrecked first bishop of Brazil, Pero Fernandes Sardinha, in 1556, the governor declared war on them, and they were enslaved or destroyed.
