Calagurris

Also known as Calagurris Nassica

Calagurris was a town of the Vascones on the Ebro in northern Spain, the site of modern Calahorra in La Rioja. It backed Sertorius in his war against the Roman Senate and fell to Pompey's forces in 72 BCE after a siege so harsh that the defenders were said to have eaten their dead. As a Roman municipium it was the birthplace of the rhetorician Quintilian.
