Capitulations of Santa Fe
The Capitulations of Santa Fe were the agreement signed on 17 April 1492 at Santa Fe, near Granada, between Isabella I and Ferdinand II and Christopher Columbus. They granted Columbus the title of Admiral of the Ocean Sea, the offices of viceroy and governor of any lands he discovered, and a tenth of the profits. Disputes over these rights later led to long lawsuits between his heirs and the crown.
