Carlo Cattaneo

1801–1869 · 19th century

Carlo Cattaneo was an Italian philosopher, economist and federalist. During the Five Days of Milan in March 1848 he led the council of war that directed the uprising against the Austrian garrison. He opposed handing Lombardy to the Kingdom of Sardinia, favouring a federal republican Italy, and after the Austrian return he lived in exile in Switzerland.
