Castra Regina

179 · 2nd century

Castra Regina was a Roman legionary fortress on the Danube completed in 179 CE under Marcus Aurelius for the Third Italian Legion, on the site of the later city of Regensburg. It guarded the frontier of the province of Raetia, and parts of its walls, including the Porta Praetoria gate, still stand in Regensburg's old town.
