Caterino Zeno
Caterino Zeno was a Venetian merchant and diplomat sent in 1471 as ambassador to the Aq Qoyunlu ruler Uzun Hasan, whose wife Despina Khatun was the aunt of Zeno's wife. He worked for an alliance between Venice and Uzun Hasan against the Ottoman Empire and travelled to European courts to seek support for it. An account of his travels was published by his descendants in the sixteenth century.
