1463–1509 · 15th century

Caterina Sforza was the daughter of Galeazzo Maria Sforza, Duke of Milan, and wife of Girolamo Riario, lord of Imola and Forlì. After her husband's murder in 1488 she ruled the lordship as regent for her son. She defied Cesare Borgia's siege of Forlì in 1499 to 1500 but was captured, and her state passed to the Borgias.
