1475–1507 · 15th century · Also known as Duke Valentino

Cesare Borgia was the son of Pope Alexander VI. Made Duke of Valentinois by Louis XII of France in 1498, he used papal money and French troops to conquer the lordships of the Romagna and the Marche, including Imola, Forlì, Rimini, Pesaro, Faenza and Camerino, forming a Duchy of Romagna. His state collapsed after his father's death in 1503, and he was killed in Navarre.
