Ceres
Ceres was the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops and fertility, closely identified with the Greek Demeter. Her temple on the Aventine Hill in Rome, traditionally dedicated in 493 BCE, was a centre of the plebeians. Because her cult followed Greek rites, Rome recruited its priestesses from Greek cities of southern Italy such as Velia and Naples.
