Chand Sultan

d. 1739 · 18th century

Chand Sultan was a Gond ruler of the Deogarh kingdom in central India, son of Bakht Buland Shah. He made Nagpur, founded by his father around 1702, his capital and continued the clearing and settlement of new land. After his death in 1739 a succession dispute led his widow to call in Raghoji Bhonsle, whose Marathas soon took control.
