Charles II, Duke of Lorraine

1364–1431 · 15th century

Charles II was Duke of Lorraine from 1390 to 1431. An energetic ruler, he allied with the dukes of Burgundy against the Armagnac party in France, and in 1429 Joan of Arc visited him at Nancy. Having no son, he married his daughter Isabella to René of Anjou, and his death led to a succession war between René and his nephew Antoine of Vaudémont.
