Charminar

1591 · 16th century

The Charminar is a monument and mosque in the centre of Hyderabad, India, built in 1591 by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah of the Golconda Sultanate when he founded the city. Its square body is crowned at each corner by a minaret about 56 metres high, which gives the building its name, 'four minarets'. It is the best-known symbol of Hyderabad.
