Chioggia

Chioggia is a town on an island at the southern end of the Venetian lagoon in north-eastern Italy, long a centre of fishing and salt production and one of the oldest lagoon communities. In the War of Chioggia (1378–1381) a Genoese fleet captured it, threatening Venice itself, until the Venetians blockaded and forced the surrender of the Genoese in 1380. It remains an important fishing port.
