War of Chioggia

1378–1381 · 14th century

The War of Chioggia (1378–1381) was a war between Venice and Genoa, with Hungary, Padua and Aquileia among Genoa's allies. In 1379 a Genoese fleet under Pietro Doria seized Chioggia at the edge of the Venetian lagoon, but the Venetians blockaded it there and forced its surrender in 1380. The Peace of Turin of 1381 left neither side dominant, though Genoa never again seriously threatened Venice.
