Chones
The Chones were an ancient people of southern Italy, living near the Ionian coast of modern Basilicata and northern Calabria before the arrival of Greek colonists. Greek writers regarded them as related to the Oenotrians, and the land around Siris and Metapontum was called Chonia. They were later absorbed by the Greeks and the Lucanians.
