Cholon
Cholon (Chợ Lớn, 'big market') is the Chinese quarter of Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam. Founded by Chinese settlers in the late 18th century, it grew under French rule into a separate city and the main rice-trading centre of the Mekong delta, before being joined administratively with Saigon in 1931. It remains the centre of Vietnam's ethnic Chinese community.
