Oenotrians

The Oenotrians were an ancient Italic people of southern Italy, recorded by Greek writers as living in what are now Basilicata and Calabria before the founding of the Greek colonies in the 8th century BCE. The Greeks called the region Oenotria, and the name Italia first referred to part of their land. They were absorbed by the Greek cities and later by the Lucanians and Bruttians.
