Chūzan Seikan

1650 · 17th century · Also known as Chuzan Seikan

The Chūzan Seikan (Reflections on Chūzan) is the first official history of the Ryukyu Kingdom, written in Japanese by Haneji Chōshū and completed in 1650. Composed after the Satsuma invasion of 1609, it traced the royal line back to legendary rulers and presented the kingdom's ties with Japan in a favourable light. It shaped later Ryukyuan histories.
