Çineköy inscription

8th century BCE · 8th century BCE

The Çineköy inscription is a bilingual text in Luwian hieroglyphs and Phoenician carved on the base of a statue of the storm god found in 1997 at Çineköy, south of Adana in Turkey. Dating to the late 8th century BCE, it was set up by Warika (Awariku), king of Hiyawa, and refers to his close ties with Assyria. It confirmed that Hiyawa was the Luwian name of the kingdom the Assyrians called Que.
