Ciudad Real

Ciudad Real is a city in Castile-La Mancha, central Spain, and the capital of the province of the same name. King Alfonso X founded it in 1255 as Villa Real to strengthen royal power in La Mancha against the military orders, and it became a city in 1420. In antiquity its region lay between the lands of the Carpetani, Oretani and Olcades.
