Ciudadela (Teotihuacan)
The Ciudadela is a vast square enclosure at Teotihuacan, on the east side of the Avenue of the Dead, surrounded by platforms topped with temples and enclosing a great plaza. Built in the early third century CE, it contains the Feathered Serpent Pyramid and residential compounds that may have housed the city's rulers. It probably combined political, religious and ceremonial functions.
