Cleomenean War

229–222 BCE · 3rd century BCE

The Cleomenean War was fought from 229 to 222 BCE between Sparta under King Cleomenes III and the Achaean League. Cleomenes, who had carried out radical reforms at home, defeated the Achaeans repeatedly, prompting their leader Aratus to seek help from Antigonus III Doson of Macedon; the Macedonian and Achaean victory at Sellasia in 222 BCE ended Spartan power.
