Clonard Abbey

6th century · 6th century

Clonard Abbey was a monastery in County Meath, Ireland, founded by Finnian of Clonard in the early 6th century. It became one of the great schools of early Irish Christianity, and tradition makes its founder the teacher of the 'Twelve Apostles of Ireland', including Columba. It was later a bishopric and an Augustinian house, of which little survives.
