Clonfert

Clonfert is a village in east County Galway, Ireland, where St Brendan the Navigator founded a monastery around 557. The monastery became a major centre of learning and the seat of a medieval bishopric. Its 12th-century cathedral has a celebrated Hiberno-Romanesque doorway, one of the finest in Ireland.
