FitzGerald dynasty
The FitzGerald dynasty, or Geraldines, was a Cambro-Norman family descended from Gerald of Windsor that took part in the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland from 1169. Its two main branches became the Earls of Kildare and the Earls of Desmond, who dominated much of Leinster and Munster. The Kildare line led Irish government for long periods until the revolt of Silken Thomas in 1534–35, and the Desmond line was destroyed in the Desmond Rebellions of 1569–83.
