Cổ Loa Citadel

3rd century BCE · 3rd century BCE · Also known as Co Loa

Cổ Loa Citadel is an ancient fortified settlement north of Hanoi in the Red River delta, with three concentric rings of earthen ramparts and moats. Tradition credits it to King An Dương of Âu Lạc in the 3rd century BCE, and excavations have found large bronze arrowhead hoards. Ngô Quyền made it his capital in 939.
