Cochabamba Water War
The Cochabamba Water War was a series of protests in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba from December 1999 to April 2000 against the privatisation of the municipal water supply. The concession had been given to Aguas del Tunari, a consortium led by the US company Bechtel, and water prices rose sharply. After strikes, roadblocks and a protester's death, the government cancelled the contract.
