Commission of Government
The Commission of Government was the unelected body that governed Newfoundland from 1934 to 1949. Facing bankruptcy in the Great Depression, the dominion gave up self-government, and a governor and six commissioners appointed from London, three from Britain and three from Newfoundland, took over. It ended when Newfoundland joined Canada as its tenth province in 1949.
