Congress of Erfurt
The Congress of Erfurt was a meeting between Napoleon and Tsar Alexander I of Russia held in Erfurt from 27 September to 14 October 1808, attended by many German princes. It was meant to renew the alliance agreed at Tilsit, but Alexander would not commit himself against Austria, encouraged in secret by Talleyrand. During the congress Napoleon received Goethe in a famous audience.
