1323 · 14th century · Also known as Consistory of the Gay Science

The Consistori del Gai Saber ('Consistory of the Gay Science') was a literary society founded in Toulouse in 1323 by seven citizens to preserve the poetry of the troubadours. It held a yearly poetry contest with prizes of golden flowers, the Jeux floraux, and its Leys d'amors set out rules of Occitan grammar and verse. It survives today as the Académie des Jeux floraux.
